PSA: That 'quick 30 minute' tub surround demo took me 6 hours

I told a homeowner last week I'd rip out their old fiberglass tub surround before lunch. Figured it would be a simple pry-and-pull deal, maybe an hour tops. Nope. The previous guy had glued every single panel with construction adhesive AND screwed it into the studs with like 40 rusted drywall screws. I spent 3 hours just fighting the panels off the wall, then another 2 hours scraping off all that dried glue so the new stuff would sit flat. By the time I finally got done, it was 4pm and I'd missed two other calls. Has anyone else run into a 'simple' job that turned into an all-day nightmare?

My new stud finder picked up a live wire it was not supposed to

Bought one of those fancy multi-sensor ones at Home Depot last Wednesday. Went to hang a cabinet in the kitchen and it lit up like crazy over one spot. Dummy me thought it was just a stud. Drilled right into a line feeding the dishwasher. No shock luckily but had to call an electrician buddy to patch it up. $75 later and a hole in the drywall. Anyone else had one of these things give false readings?

Just found out most extension cord ratings are for 25ft max, not 100ft

I was running a 100ft cord to my saw on a job last week and wondered why it kept tripping the breaker. Looked it up on OSHA's site and learned those amp ratings on the package assume like a 25ft length, shorter cord means more amps safely. Anyone else get burned by this?

Drove twenty minutes to a drywall patch and found out the leak was still active from the roof. Called the guy who booked me and he said "just do what you can" while I'm standing in dripping water. Packed up by 10:30 and went home because the third job texted me they had a family emergency. Lost about $400 that day between gas and lost wages. The worst part was sitting in my truck eating a cold sandwich wondering if I picked the wrong line of work. You guys ever have a day where the universe just says nope?

Last month I had a crew doing drywall at a house in Cary, NC and halfway through day 2 one of their guys fell off a ladder and broke his wrist. Turned out the sub's insurance had lapsed 3 weeks earlier and nobody caught it. I ended up having to cover his medical bills out of pocket since my general liability didn't kick in for subs I hired. Cost me about $4,200. Now I make every sub send me a fresh certificate of insurance the morning they start a job. Anyone else had to learn this lesson the hard way?

I was framing out a basement in Denver last week and kept having to walk back and forth to grab my main tape from the tool belt. My brand new Milwaukee bandsaw blade snapped on day three

I picked up a fresh 18TPI blade from Ace Hardware last Friday for a job cutting some 2 inch steel pipe. It cut fine for the first maybe 15 cuts, then on the 16th one it just snapped clean in half mid cut. No warning, no binding, just pop and done. I called Milwaukee and they said it's user error and wouldn't warranty it. Anybody else had a blade fail like that right out of the box?

I was doing a big fence job out in Elgin for a horse property, like 600 feet of woven wire with wooden posts. I usually do $8k-$10k a month solo, but that one pushed me over $15k because I bid it tight and finished in 10 days instead of 14.
