That highly rated indie film everyone raves about was a total snooze fest

Watched 'Past Lives' last night after seeing it on every top 10 list and I nearly fell asleep 45 minutes in. The whole middle act is just two people staring at each other in a bar with zero dialogue for like 15 minutes. Anyone else find this one massively overhyped or am I missing something?

Can we talk about how 80s action movies aged like milk?

Had a chat with my nephew last Friday after he caught me watching Commando on the shop TV. He asked why every bad guy had to be a stereotype and why the hero never reloaded. That hit different because I grew up thinking these movies were perfect, but now I see all the lazy writing and dated politics. Anyone else find old favorites unwatchable now?

Debate: Is 'The Room' actually a masterpiece or just a train wreck? I can't decide anymore

Rewatched The Room last week with my friend Sarah at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, and we got into this huge argument about whether it's genuinely bad or accidentally brilliant. Like, Tommy Wiseau's line 'You are tearing me apart, Lisa!' is so bad it's good, but the random football scene in suits feels like it belongs in a completely different movie. What side do you guys fall on? Do you think there's a fine line between cult classic and total garbage, or is it all just a mess?

Got through a 20-minute torture scene without walking out

I used to just shut off any movie that dragged on too long. Last week I sat through that 20-minute desert walking scene in 'The Green Inferno' remake without bailing. What changed is I told myself I'd see the whole movie for once, even if it sucked. Has anyone else pushed through a terrible movie and felt weirdly proud about it?

Watched 'Time Chasers' on a $5 streaming rental and felt ripped off

I compared this 90s time travel mess to 'Safety Not Guaranteed' and the difference was night and day. Time Chasers had a guy in a cardboard plane for 15 minutes, no joke. Has anyone found a time travel movie that's actually worth the rental fee?

Was reading the production notes on Wikipedia and it turns out the lighting mismatches in every scene are from him just buying whatever was available at the local camera shop in San Francisco, has anyone else noticed that the color shifts every time they cut to a new angle?

Sat through 'The Garbage Pail Kids Movie' on a dare last night, regret every minute

My buddy bet me $20 I couldn't make it through the whole thing without walking out. I made it, but barely. That scene where the kid turns into a snot monster literally made me gag into my popcorn. Has anyone else watched a so-bad-it's-horrible movie and actually regretted the time lost?

Rant: Walked out of that new A.I. horror flick after 20 minutes

I finally gave in and watched that movie where the robot nanny goes rogue and I swear the acting was so robotic it made me miss my old Nokia ringtone. The scene where the kid just stares at a blinking light for five straight minutes did me in. Anyone else bail on a hyped movie early this week and find something decent to replace it?

Changed my mind about horror movies after Skinamarink

I swore I'd never watch a horror movie that relied on grainy footage and whispering, but Skinamarink broke me. What convinced me was the way it made me remember being 5 years old and scared of the dark hallway in my grandma's house, not jump scares or gore. Everyone I talk to keeps saying it's boring or nothing happens, but they're missing that the fear is in the familiar details, like the TV static and the empty corners. That movie proved horror doesn't need a monster if it can tap into a real childhood dread. Has anyone else had a movie shift what they think is scary?

I mean, the tension was building for like 20 minutes and then he just faceplants into the carpet and the hero walks away. Any other films where the climax was totally ruined by something stupid like that?

Hot take: I actually liked the new 'Halloween Ends' movie and I'm tired of pretending it was bad

I watched it last Saturday at my buddy's place in Denver and that whole scene in the sewer with Michael just sitting there felt raw and real to me, not stupid. Everyone says the plot went nowhere but isn't that how some real horror stories play out? Has anyone else actually enjoyed a movie that everyone online trashed?

My brother swore I'd love The Lobster and I wanted to throw a shoe at the screen after 20 minutes

He said it was hilarious and quirky but I sat there watching people get turned into animals for no reason and felt my soul drain out. Has anyone else been tricked into watching a 'comedy' that was actually just depressing?

That time someone told me the audio mix on my short film was completely wrecked

I spent 4 months editing a 12 minute horror short and posted it in a film critique group. A sound designer named Jen pointed out that my dialogue levels were jumping all over the place because I didn't normalize them across different takes. She suggested I use a free tool called Youlean Loudness Meter to match everything to -14 LUFS. Has anyone else had their movie saved by a random stranger's blunt feedback?

Paid $18 to see that new horror flick at the Alamo Drafthouse and walked out during the third jump scare

The whole theater was dead silent except for one guy crunching popcorn way too loud and the movie relied on the same fake-out cat jump scare like five times. I got a ticket refund but has anyone else had a movie that made you ditch your popcorn?
