That highly-rated horror movie wasted 45 minutes of my life on fake jump scares with zero payoff.
Sat through The Haunting of Hollow Creek last night and after 45 minutes of nothing but loud noises and fake cats jumping out I walked out, has anyone actually found a horror film this year that earns its tension instead of cheating?
The third act of that movie is where it completely falls apart too, I heard from a friend who stayed. Did you notice if the sound design was doing all the heavy lifting with those cheap orchestral stabs, or were there actual creepy visuals buried in there somewhere?
Totally agree with you @gavinhunt, the sound design was doing all the heavy lifting in that third act. The cheap jump scares were covering for a lot of empty space visually.
