Finally figured out why my fades kept looking muddy

Been cutting hair for 6 years and could never get a clean blend on the sides. Last week a client told me I was going over the same spot too many times with the clipper. Soon as I stopped doing that and started using fewer passes my fades came out way sharper. Anyone else have a basic move that took way too long to learn?

Tried clipper-over-comb vs freehand for bald fades and one is way faster

Been cutting for about 5 years now and I always did my bald fades with clipper-over-comb on the transition. Last week a customer came in who gets his cut every 10 days so I wanted to try something different. Used freehand with just the clipper and my eye on the second half of his head. Honestly it came out just as clean and I saved a good 10 minutes off the whole cut. Customer didn't notice any difference either. Has anyone else switched and found it works better or am I missing something?

I swear my Stihl trimmer was designed by a sadist. Tried swapping the line on my FS 55 today and it took me almost 2 hours to get that stupid bump head apart. I was down to either Wahl or Andis for my new cordless clippers. After reading reviews for 3 days straight I went with the Wahl Seniors because a buddy swore by them. First week they kept bogging down on thick wet hair which really threw me off. I swapped to the Andis Master after returning them and the torque difference was night and day. Has anyone else found certain clippers just don't handle specific hair types well?

I was doing a skin fade on a 10 year old in downtown Austin when my Wahl blade guard popped off and hit the floor, had to switch to my backup clipper mid-section and the kid's mom was not amused, has anyone else had a blade guard fail on them at the worst possible moment?

Why does nobody talk about comb vs scissor-over-comb for fading?

Been cutting at a shop in Austin for 2 years and always defaulted to scissor over comb for blending. Decided to try a fine tooth comb on my last three clients and the blend came out way smoother with less bulk. Anyone else have a preference between these two or am I just doing scissor over comb wrong?

Debate: Are straight razors actually sharper than safety razors or is that just hype?

I was reading this barber blog last night and they said a straight razor has an edge angle around 16 degrees while a safety razor is like 30 degrees. Supposedly that makes straight razors way sharper for detail work. But then I thought, doesn't a fresh safety blade cut cleaner since it's brand new every time? I've been using a straight for 6 months on fades and it feels smoother but I'm not sure about actual sharpness. What do you all think, is the angle thing real or just barber lore?

I finally settled the clipper vs scissors debate for myself after 8 years behind the chair

So I've been going back and forth on this forever. For my last 50 haircuts I timed myself using clippers for the bulk removal versus scissors. Clippers got me done in 22 minutes on average, but scissors took 35 minutes. The thing is though, the guys who got scissors kept coming back more often, like every 2 weeks instead of 3. My regulars say scissor cuts just look more natural and grown in better. Has anyone else noticed a big difference in retention between the two methods or am I overthinking this?
