Saw a barber in Portland run his clippers dry for 20 seconds and now I can't stop thinking about it
Stopped into a shop on Hawthorne in Portland while visiting my sister a couple weeks ago, just to kill time while she was in a meeting. The guy two chairs down was doing a fade and I watched him spray his clippers with what I thought was coolant, but it was actually a cleaner he was using mid-cut without brushing the hair out first. He ran the thing for a solid 20 seconds with no guard and no blade oil, and it sounded rough, like a lawnmower eating a twig. My own clippers cost me $180 and I baby them, brush and oil after every client, so watching this made my shoulders tense up. I asked him about it after and he said he replaces blades every 6 months anyway so it doesn't matter. Maybe he's got a point and I'm overthinking it, but I keep wondering if I'm wasting time with my whole routine. Any of you run your gear hard and just swap parts, or am I right to be careful with mine?
