My coworker roasted my old iPod touch at the nurse's station last week

She said the screen was so dim it looked like I was trying to read a menu in a dark restaurant. Said I probably lost the brightness setting somewhere around 2010. Anyway got me thinking about how I never even noticed it getting worse over the years. It's still my go to for podcasts during overnight rounds. Anyone else holding onto a device that's clearly past its prime just because it still works?

Gently disagree with the idea that you lost the brightness setting. It's more likely the screen's backlight just wore out over time, happens to all of them eventually. Still totally get why you keep it around for podcasts though, the battery life on those old ones was something else.

wait, is that really what happened to mine too? tbh i always just assumed i accidentally turned it down and never found the setting again. but @luna_green you might be onto something cause the screen on my old ipod nano is definitely way dimmer than it used to be. it's honestly a bummer because i loved that thing for reading ebooks on during commutes. at least the battery is still a beast though, i can listen to podcasts for like a week straight without charging it.
