Soldering with a torch beats glue for lasting repairs, hands down.

A lot of jewelers use adhesives now to save time, but I've fixed too many pieces that came apart. The old way with a torch makes a bond that really holds up over years.

My grandma's old toaster is from the 70s and still works, but the one I bought last year already feels flimsy. It feels like everything is made to be fixed with a quick glue job instead of built to last, just like those jewelry repairs.

But what if stuff today is made to fail so we replace it faster? @wren652 said companies cut costs, but maybe they just want us to keep buying new things.

You know, @grant.margaret, that old toaster is a tank, but newer stuff has upsides too (even if it feels light). Companies now cut costs on materials to hit lower price points everyone seems to want. A lot of those old appliances were energy hogs and sometimes less safe, so it's a trade-off. We get more features and efficiency today, but often at the cost of that heavy-duty feel. It just seems like the focus shifted from lasting fifty years to being affordable now.
