Shoutout to my 3 AM work call in Bali that changed my routine

I joined a team meeting from Bali when it was the middle of the night here. It was so peaceful without daytime noise, and I finished tasks faster than ever. Do you guys notice your best work happens at weird hours on the road?

My cousin in Lisbon once dragged me to a 5 AM coding session from her balcony. Tbh, the city was so quiet and the light was just coming up, it felt like we had stolen extra hours from the day. We blasted through a backlog of tickets before her roommates even woke up. Something about being out of your normal spot just makes the brain work different, you know? Now I kinda chase that feeling by working early in weird cafes when I travel.

Yeah but it's not really about the work output for me, it's more like those weird hours let you see a place in a totally different way. Emery Lane has a point about messing up your sleep, but I find if I do it just once or twice on a trip it's worth the trade. You get to watch a city wake up, see the delivery trucks and the early morning regulars, stuff you'd miss if you were just another tourist sleeping in. It makes the whole trip feel more real, less like a postcard. Have you ever tried working from somewhere totally unexpected just to see what it's like?

But let me play devil's advocate. That 3 AM call might seem productive, but you're probably just sleep deprived and running on novelty. I tried working weird hours on a trip once, and it messed up my sleep for days. The quiet time isn't worth the jet lag or losing your steady routine. Chasing that feeling can ruin your trip because you're too tired to enjoy where you are.
