Shoutout to a client who actually read the specs
Was sketching out a vent layout for a range hood and the client flagged a section... they had done their own research on local building codes. We adjusted the duct run to meet the clearance rules... avoided a costly redo after inspection. Really appreciated their attention to detail.

Man that's the dream. So many people just nod along and trust you got it. Then the inspector shows up and boom, rework. Clients who put in even a little homework are gold. Catches stuff we might miss cause we're in the weeds. Makes the whole job smoother for everyone. Saves their money and my schedule.

My cousin in Phoenix had a client who researched everything and it turned into a nightmare. They argued over every code line and held up the project for weeks. Sometimes too much homework just makes people think they know more than the pros.

Clairem81's point about nightmare clients is real, but maybe the difference is how they talk to you. A client who reads up and asks good questions is a partner. The ones who just want to fight treat the code book like a weapon. It's about respect, not just knowledge. Ever had a client who learned just enough to understand your choices?
