Painted my bathroom trim with leftover semi-gloss from the garage and now it looks like a giant sticky handprint magnet.

Went to touch up a scuff on the baseboard and realized the paint had separated so bad it looked like cottage cheese, but I stirred it up anyway and now I have to repaint the whole thing because the sheen is all patchy has anyone else had old paint just completely betray them like that?

Stirring it back in is a gamble for sure. That cottage cheese look means the paint's binder has broken down, so even if you mix it smooth, the sheen and adhesion are toast. Had that happen with a gallon of eggshell I kept around for four years. Wound up with these dull, flat patches next to the shiny spots and had to do the whole wall over again. Next time just toss it and buy a fresh quart. Not worth the extra coat of aggravation.

Take that old paint straight to the recycling center. I learned the hard way with a quart of semigloss that looked fine after stirring but dried with a weird crinkly texture. Every brush stroke left a line and it peeled off in sheets within a month. A fresh quart costs maybe 15 bucks and saves you a whole Saturday of fixing mistakes. Better to waste the paint than waste your time.
