I finally stopped using cheap caulk after a bathroom reno went bad

I used a $2 tube of caulk on a tub surround in Austin last fall, and it started peeling within 3 weeks. A homeowner on Nextdoor told me I needed a premium silicone based one that actually flexes. Has anyone else had a customer call them out on material quality like that?

Austin humidity kills cheap caulk every time.

Oh man, caulk drama is real. Had a buddy in San Antonio that used the cheap stuff on his kitchen backsplash and it literally shrunk up and left gaps in like a month. He was so pissed, said it looked like old chewing gum. Speaking of gum, I once stepped in a wad of it at a Home Depot while grabbing some DAP stuff - the good kind - and had to scrape it off my shoe with a putty knife. Total mess. That premium silicone is legit though. I learned that lesson on a window install in 2019. Never going back to the bargain bin stuff.
