I always thought a quick phone call was enough for small jobs
Last week, a client in Austin agreed to a $1,800 deck repair over the phone. I showed up ready to start, and he acted like we never spoke. I lost a whole day's work and had to eat the gas money. Now I get everything in a text or email, even for the little stuff. How do you guys handle quick quotes to avoid this mess?

Honestly, that sounds like a pretty rare situation. Most people are decent and a verbal agreement for a small job is usually fine. Maybe that guy in Austin was just having a really bad day or got his wires crossed. Getting everything in writing is smart, but it can also slow down the really quick, simple jobs.

Man, that's brutal. So when he acted like you never spoke, did he give any reason at all or just play totally dumb? I'm trying to figure out if this was a simple mix-up or a straight up lie.
