Hit 200 completed jobs this month and I'm torn on whether that's good or bad
I just wrapped up my 200th contract job since I started freelancing full time back in 2021. Part of me thinks it's a solid milestone, like I've proven I can keep getting work. But then I look at how many of those were small $200 bathroom tile jobs versus bigger remodels, and I wonder if I'm spreading myself too thin. The number surprised me because I didn't realize I'd done that many until I added them up in QuickBooks. Any other contractors out there track their job count, and does a higher number feel like a win or a red flag to you?

Woah that's a lot of numbers to just be finding out through QuickBooks... @laurabennett might have a point about you not paying attention, but honestly is it really that serious? You got paid and kept working, that's more than a lot of people can say.

Honestly I'm gonna push back on this being something to feel good about. 200 jobs in like 2.5 years means you're averaging almost 7 jobs a month which sounds more like you're doing piecework than building a real business. Every time you start a new job you've got overhead - driving there, setting up, paperwork, dealing with the client - and if most of those are $200 bathroom tiles then you're probably losing money on the administrative hassle alone. The fact that you didn't even realize you hit that number until Quickbooks told you is a red flag too, means you're not paying attention to where your time is actually going. I'd rather see someone do 20 big remodels a year than 80 small jobs because the big ones pay way better per hour and you aren't constantly chasing the next client.
