Found out drywall mud has a 30 minute window and I ruined 4 panels in 1998
Honestly, I read that on a union forum last night and it explained why my first tape job in Phoenix looked like a melted marshmallow, has anyone else bombed a room before learning the clock trick?
The 30 minute window is a guideline, not a hard rule. Temperature, humidity, and how thick you lay it on all change the numbers. I used to add a little water and keep working it past the half hour mark all the time. The trick is not letting it dry out on top while you go back over it. Sounds like the real problem in Phoenix was the heat sucking the moisture out way faster than whatever that forum said.
Ugh, tell me about it! I tried the "add a little water" trick once and ended up with a patchy mess that looked like abstract art. Guess my concrete just has trust issues.
