Changed my tune on site cleanup after a surprise inspection

I always thought leaving tools out overnight was fine if I was coming back the next day. Then a city inspector showed up unannounced and wrote me up for a safety violation. Now I pack up everything, even if it adds ten minutes to my day. Last week, it saved my drill from getting rained on. That would have been a costly mistake. I see now that a tidy site is just part of the job, lol.

You said leaving tools out was fine if you're coming back, but it's not just about rain or inspections. Tools can get stolen overnight, even from spots you think are safe. I knew a guy who left a ladder on a job site and it was gone by morning. That's a bigger headache than a wet drill. Have you ever had something go missing after leaving it out?

Ever think about why some crews still take the chance and leave stuff out overnight? I lost a cordless sawzall that way years ago, thought the site was locked down tight lol. Makes you wonder if the time saved not packing up is even worth the risk anymore. What's the most expensive thing you've heard of walking off a site?
