A client's messy garage in Austin made me change my whole walkthrough process

I was doing a deck estimate last month and the homeowner had tools, bikes, and old boxes everywhere in the garage where we met. I couldn't even see the back wall to check the siding condition. Now I always ask to do the walkthrough outside first, or I schedule a quick video call beforehand if the space is cluttered. It saves me at least 30 minutes of moving stuff just to get a look. Has anyone else found a good way to handle super messy initial site visits?

Seriously, that's just part of the job, man.

But what if the job shouldn't have that part? Like, where's the line between a tough duty and something that's just broken? Seems like a lot of people just accept bad stuff as normal.
