Hidden crack in my breaking knife almost led to a bad cut

I was working on a beef rib when I spotted a small crack near the handle. This knife gets used every day in my shop. If it broke during a cut, it could slice right into my hand. Now I make a point to check all my blades before I start. Has anyone else seen this happen with their tools?

That "slice right into my hand" part sounds like free tendon surgery you didn't order.

Sometimes it takes almost losing a finger to finally read the terms and service on your own tools. You only notice these things right after a close call. Real quality control is just avoiding a trip to the emergency room.

You're overreacting to a tiny crack. Tools are meant to be used hard and they get wear and tear, it's part of the job. Checking every blade before a shift is a waste of good cutting time. @theas94 has the right idea, you only learn by using stuff until it fails. A little risk keeps you sharp and paying attention. That knife probably has years left in it.
