Why does everyone act like dried beans are the only cheap protein?

I keep seeing posts where people say you have to buy dried beans to save money, but that's not always true. I did the math after a trip to my local store in Tacoma, and a can of black beans was 89 cents. The dried bag, which makes about the same amount, was 1.49. When you add the cost of running my stove for two hours to cook them, plus my time, the canned ones are cheaper for me. I think people forget to count their time and the gas or electric bill. For a quick meal after a long day moving furniture, I'm grabbing the can. It's still a budget meal without the hassle. Has anyone else checked the real cost difference lately?

Wait, your dried beans cost more than the canned ones? That's wild, my store is always the opposite. You must have a really good deal on canned goods there.

Yeah it's wild how much prices can change by store. I just started checking the unit price on the shelf tags every time. Found out the canned ones were actually cheaper per serving at my place too, so I switched.
