Rant: Why is everyone tossing out their celery leaves these days?
I noticed at the grocery store last week, two people in front of me bought celery and immediately stripped the leaves off into the compost bin. That's the most flavorful part, you know? My grandma used to chop those leaves into everything from soups to meatloaf back in the 80s. One bunch gives you maybe a cup of free herbs, and with celery at $2.50 a bunch now, why waste a third of it? I threw a handful into a lentil stew on Tuesday and it tasted like I added a bay leaf and parsley combo. Am I the only one who still keeps the leaves, or did everyone just forget they exist?
