My buddy got the same tip from a guy at a stand near Visalia and now his whole garage smells like peppers and vinegar. He gives jars out at Christmas and people actually fight over them. Bruised fruit is where it's at for cooking, no reason to pay full price for stuff getting mashed up anyway.
