My roommate said I was wasting money on fresh herbs and honestly she might be right
I always bought fresh basil and cilantro for like $3 a bunch because I thought dried stuff was cheating. But my roommate showed me she keeps a jar of dried oregano and basil mix she got at Aldi for under $2 that lasts months. She made a pasta sauce with it that tasted just as good as mine with fresh stuff. Has anyone else switched to mostly dried herbs and noticed a real difference in their grocery bill?

Yeah the "fresh is always better" thing is one of those rules we just accept without thinking about it. Same with buying name brand stuff at the grocery store when the store brand is basically the same thing. I switched to dried herbs for cooking and only buy fresh if I'm making something where the herb is the star of the show like pesto or a big salad. Saves a ton and honestly most people can't tell the difference in a sauce or stew.
