My grocery bill came in $75 under budget this month and I'm still shocked
I finally tried a 'pantry week' where I only bought milk and eggs, forcing me to get creative with a bag of lentils, a can of tomatoes, and some forgotten rice, and it made me realize how much I was wasting by not using what I already had first. Has anyone else done a no-spend week on groceries and found a new favorite cheap meal?

Remember when @abbyk10 mentioned that cash envelope for car stuff? That made me try a "gas only" week where I couldn't buy anything but fuel... ended up fixing a weird rattling sound in my dashboard with a zip tie I found in the junk drawer.

Honestly, that sounds stressful to me. I tried that once and just ended up eating plain rice for three days straight. For me, a strict budget works better than a total spending freeze.

Yeah, the all-or-nothing approach backfires fast. A small buffer for emergencies keeps you from the plain rice diet.

We had a fifty dollar cash envelope just for the car. That covered a tow or a flat tire without wrecking the whole grocery budget for the month. It kept us from dipping into savings for every little thing.
