My grandma's soup pot taught me more about saving money than any app

I was thinking about how we used to make big batches of soup with whatever was cheap. A ham bone, some lentils, and veggies from the garden. Now, with everything costing more, I still do that, but I have to plan better. I remember my mom stretching a chicken over three meals. These days, I use the same idea with rice and beans. It's not fancy, but it keeps us fed without stress. Some things don't change, even if prices do.

That chicken stretching method is key. It turns cooking into a creative puzzle that cuts down on waste too.

Yeah, calling it a creative puzzle is spot on. It makes you plan meals for days and cuts down on grocery trips. @kim_foster33's point about simmering bones really shows how one step leads to more.

Seriously, I read something like that in an old cookbook last year. It was all about using every single part of the bird, @adam411, like simmering the bones right after for stock. Honestly it makes a ton of sense when you see it laid out. Turns a simple meal into two or three without much extra work. Tbh it's just smart cooking that helps the grocery bill too.
