My food budget for the month came in at $87.50 and I'm honestly shocked

I started making a big pot of lentil soup every Sunday and it's been my lunch all week. That one habit saved me over $40 compared to last month. Has anyone else found a single meal that really cut their spending?

The real game changer for me was learning to use the leftover cooking liquid. After boiling a whole chicken, that broth becomes the base for a week of rice or stew. It turns one cheap meal into the start of several more, and you're not buying stock.

That's a huge win. Lentil soup is a total powerhouse for saving money. I do something similar with a big batch of chili. Beans, cheap canned tomatoes, some spices. Ate it for lunch three days last week. Makes a real dent in the grocery bill.

Absolutely, batch cooking is the only way I make it through the month. The trick is to freeze half of it right away in single portions, otherwise you get sick of it by day three. I use those cheap deli containers, they stack well. A big pot of something like that easily cuts my lunch cost down to like a dollar a day.
