My coworker said she feeds her family of 4 on $45 a week and I called bull
Last week at lunch in Fresno, Dana told me she spends $45 a week to feed her husband and two teens, and I flat out said no way. She pulled out her phone and showed me her grocery list: dried beans, rice, eggs, frozen veggies, chicken thighs on sale, and a big bag of potatoes. Is she really pulling that off, or is she leaving stuff out of the math?
Man, I feel for you because I would've called bull too. But honestly after watching my sister do something similar with her three kids, I kinda get it. She buys the 10 pound bag of chicken leg quarters for like 8 bucks, bags of dry pinto beans, and that huge sack of rice from the Asian market, and suddenly meals stretch way further than you'd think. The catch is she cooks everything from scratch, like soaking beans overnight and baking her own bread, so it's basically a part time job on top of her actual job. Your coworker probably isn't lying, she's just leaving out the hours she spends in the kitchen.
