My 'budget' beans and rice week that cost me $60 in extra groceries

Last Tuesday I decided to do a full week of just beans and rice to save money. I bought a 5 pound bag of pinto beans and a giant sack of rice for like $12 total. By Wednesday night I was so bored I ordered takeout for $18. Then Thursday I caved again and bought cheese, sour cream, and tortillas to try and make it interesting, another $15. By Saturday I had spent around $60 more than usual trying to fix my own cheap meal plan. Anyone else ever try a strict budget week and end up spending way more than normal?

Heard my buddy Mark try the same thing and by Thursday he'd bought a whole new spice cabinet and sodium-free broth that set him back like $40. Ended up spending more than a normal week of groceries would've cost him.

Mark could've just used what he already had and saved the money.
