I was at the new Fresh Value market in Springfield and their 'budget meat' section was just expensive cuts cut smaller.
Paying $8 for a tiny 4oz 'budget' sirloin steak feels like a trick, not a deal, so where do you actually get cheap protein around here?

Check the weekly ads for the big chain stores. I've found real deals on family packs of chicken thighs or ground beef at Food Fair, you just have to buy in bulk and freeze it. Their per-pound price is often half of what you'd pay for those small packages.

My old freezer was tiny so I always bought the small packs. Upgrading to a chest freezer last year was a game changer. Now I buy those big family packs from Food Fair and break them down myself. The savings are real, like getting two pounds of ground beef for the price of one. It felt like a hassle at first but it's just part of my Sunday routine now.

Oh for sure, the whole 'budget' label is such a scam sometimes lol. I got suckered into that once with some pre-cut stir fry strips that were like double the price per pound of just buying a whole chicken breast. I swear they just chop it up smaller and charge more for the convenience. The chest freezer route is honestly the best thing I ever did too, I grab those big 5lb tubes of ground beef at Food Fair when they go on sale and just portion them out into freezer bags. It takes like twenty minutes on a Sunday and I'm set for weeks, plus you actually know what you're paying instead of getting tricked by tiny packages.
