Hot take: dried beans beat canned beans for my weekly chili
Switching saved me about $8 a pot, and the texture is way better after a 6 hour simmer. Anyone have a good trick for speeding up the soak time without a pressure cooker?

Ever hear about the baking soda trick? My buddy tried it last winter when he forgot to soak his beans overnight. He swears by adding a pinch to the soaking water now. Said it cut the time in half and they still came out creamy, not mushy. He just makes sure to rinse them real good before cooking. Might be worth a shot if you're in a time crunch.

Your buddy is out here doing kitchen chemistry experiments while I'm still burning toast. Gotta love the desperation move of throwing baking soda at a bean crisis, sounds like something I'd try after my third failed dinner attempt.
