Found out beans are way cheaper per pound than I thought

I was messing around on the USDA website last night and saw that dried beans cost like $1.50 per pound on average. That blew my mind because I always thought canned ones were basically the same price but they're almost double when you do the math. I made a batch of black beans from dry today and it stretched into 3 meals for under $4 total. Has anyone else switched to dried and noticed a big difference in your grocery bill?

Man I feel @david_henderson6 on that texture thing! Once you get used to dried beans, canned ones taste kinda sad. My trick is to throw a bay leaf and half an onion in the pot while they cook, makes them way richer without any extra cost. You tried freezing them yet?

Wait are you saying canned beans are actually more expensive? Because I grabbed a can of black beans at the store yesterday for like $1.20 and figured that was cheaper than cooking dry ones but now you got me doing the math in my head. I remember my grandma always had those big bags of pinto beans in the pantry and she would soak them overnight before cooking them for Sunday dinner. She said it was the poor man's food but honestly they tasted better than any canned bean I ever had. The texture is different too, more creamy and less mushy. I started doing it myself last winter when I was trying to save money and realized I could make a big pot of beans and freeze half for later. It does take more planning though because you gotta remember to soak them the night before or at least boil them first.

Feel you on that texture difference @david_henderson6, the planning is a pain but dried beans are just way better.
