Bought the wrong rice cooker and wasted $45 on it

So I saw this rice cooker on clearance at my local Fred Meyer for $45 and thought I was getting a deal. Got it home and it only cooked 2 cups of rice at a time which is useless for my family of four. I had to cook batch after batch and it took forever. Has anyone else gotten burned by a too-small appliance? What do you use for budget meals that actually works for bigger groups?

Have you considered just putting the smaller cooker to work on side dishes while you cook your main rice another way? I've got a similar situation where I run my small rice cooker for one batch of rice and use my Instant Pot for the main batch, then I've got warm rice for refills without the whole rush to cook everything at once. The two-cup size is actually perfect for cooking quinoa or oatmeal for breakfast while you're doing dinner prep with something else. My family of five found that having two different rice textures going at once actually works better than one giant batch of the same thing. Makes me wonder what else you could cook in it while your main meal is happening on the stove?

Oh man that's frustrating! I grabbed a tiny one once too and ended up donating it to a friend who lives alone - now I just use a big pot with a lid on my stove and it feeds everyone without taking up counter space.

My 2-cup rice cooker has been a lifesaver for me honestly. I live alone but even when my brothers visit we just run it twice and the rice stays warm in the cooker while we eat from the first batch. The key is timing it so the second batch finishes right as the first one runs out. For $45 you got a decent brand that'll last years instead of those giant ones that break after a year. Plus smaller cookers use way less counter space and electricity.
