Tried a reverse sear on my cheap grill vs my buddy's fancy kamado...

My gas grill with the $15 cast iron grate actually kept the crust better than his $1,200 Egg because I could actually adjust the heat fast enough. Has anyone else found that expensive gear makes simple stuff harder?

Wait, hold on... you're saying he actually flipped a burger based on what his Traeger computer told him? That sounds insane, like you're gonna need an app to tell you when to breathe next. I get that the expensive stuff looks clean and all, but if you can't just feel the heat with your hand a few inches above the grate, you're missing half the point of cooking outside. These smart grills are basically turning a simple fire into a science project nobody asked for.

The fancy gear tax is real. My buddy spent all this money on his Traeger and now he's got a computer that tells him when to flip a burger like he's running a spaceship. Meanwhile my little Weber kettle with a rusted lid is out here making perfect crusts with zero drama. Sometimes less tech means more actual cooking going on.
