DAE try using a regular oven to finish ribs instead of wrapping them?

So I got caught in a rainstorm last Saturday and my smoker coals got totally soaked. I was halfway through a rack of baby backs and didn't want to trash them. Threw them in the oven at 300 with just a little apple juice for about 45 minutes. They came out fall-off-the-bone tender and the bark actually held up better than my usual foil wrap. Has anyone else done a last minute oven save like this?

Oh man, I've been there with a propane tank running dry mid cook. A little liquid smoke in the apple juice helps bridge that smoky flavor gap when you have to finish in the oven.

Is it really that serious though? I mean, I get it, running out of propane mid-cook is annoying. But it's not like you ruined Thanksgiving dinner. Just toss it in the oven and move on with your life. Liquid smoke in the apple juice sounds like you're trying too hard to fix something that isn't broken. The oven does a fine job finishing off a rack of ribs or a pork shoulder. People act like a few hours without smoke is going to make the meat taste like cardboard. It'll be fine.
