my buddy actually tried this exact thing last weekend and his head looked like a topographic map. he went in with way too much confidence and ended up with this weird patchy chunk right above his ear that he had to hide with a hat all week. said his girlfriend laughed the second she saw it and asked if he got attacked by a lawnmower. now he's stuck growing it all out before he lets anyone touch it again. honestly I think barbers secretly love it when we do this to ourselves because it keeps them in business.
