Spent an hour trying to blend a stubborn cowlick on a kid's haircut

This kid came in yesterday with hair that stuck straight up in the back, and I thought it would be a quick fix. I mean, I tried everything from thinning shears to different guard lengths, but the hair just would not lay down. I finally got it to look decent after using a ton of product and a careful scissor-over-comb, but it took the whole hour slot. Anyone have a better method for those really strong cowlicks?

Yeah, that razor trick works great. I had a client last week with the same issue and that method saved me.

Try a little bit of texturizing with a razor first, it can break up the weight without making it look choppy. Then use a strong hold paste while the hair is still damp and blow dry it in the opposite direction.

Hold up, I said texturizing with a razor, not thinning shears. Thinning shears on a strong cowlick like that can actually make it pop up more because you're taking out internal weight. A razor just softens the ends and lets it lay down. You still need that paste and opposite direction blow dry after, but starting with the wrong tool makes the whole job harder.
