Spent a full Sunday fixing a clipper that just needed one screw

My main clipper started sounding rough on a Saturday, so I figured I'd tear it down and clean it. Took the whole blade assembly apart, oiled everything, put it back together and it still sounded like gravel. I did that twice more, even swapped the blade set with a spare, and nothing helped. Finally on Sunday night I noticed the bottom screw holding the blade was barely loose, not enough to see but enough to throw off the alignment. Tightened that one screw and it ran perfect. Maybe 5 minutes of actual work hidden behind 3 hours of me guessing. Has anyone else had a simple fix like that hide from them for way too long?

That loose blade screw thing is real but its usually the top screw that gives people trouble, not the bottom one. The bottom screw mainly holds the blade to the housing, so a tiny gap there usually makes the blade rattle or sit crooked rather than grind. Grinding sounds are more often the top screw or the blade itself not sitting flat against the cutter. If the bottom one fixed it though, your blade was probably flexing and rubbing, which would explain why swapping blades didn't help.
