My cousin gave me a barbering lesson based on a YouTube clip

My cousin visited my barber shop yesterday. He claimed he learned how to fade from a five minute video. Then he pointed at my client and said the cut was uneven. He even grabbed my clippers to demonstrate. I had to stop him before he messed up my tools. We ended up joking about it over coffee. It's funny how people think barbering is so easy.

That part about him pointing at your client and saying the cut was uneven really got me. Honestly, the wildest part of that whole scene is what the person in the chair must have been thinking. They just came in for a haircut, not to be the live model in some impromptu youtube tutorial challenge. It adds a whole other layer of awkwardness to the situation that your cousin probably didn't even see.

My barber friend did something similar once, explaining split ends to a client while literally holding up a piece of their hair like a science project. The person in the chair just stared straight ahead with this frozen smile, probably reevaluating every life choice that led them there. It’s like they forget a real human is attached to the hair they’re using as a prop. My friend was so into his teaching moment he totally missed the client slowly sinking into the seat.

Grabbing your CLIPPERS? That's a whole new level of nerve right there.
