Picture your regular guy sitting in the chair, silently fuming as you ask if he wants the same thing he's gotten for ten years. He's probably thinking, "Do you also need to confirm my name and that I have hair?" Gotta make them feel like VIPs, not just another item on the checklist.

My old barber had a checklist he'd read from like a robot. I went there for six years and he still asked if I wanted a number two on the sides every single time. It made me feel like a total stranger. Switched to a place where the guy remembers and just asks how my week was while he's cutting. That simple change makes all the difference.

Your post about the consultation script ticking off regulars is so familiar. I had a checklist that did the same thing. My regulars got annoyed with the repeated questions. I stopped using the paper list for people I know. Now I just work the key points into our normal chat. It covers everything without the awkward vibe.
