I finally started charging a proper shop fee after a bad chair broke on me

Three years ago in my old spot in Tacoma, a cheap hydraulic chair gave out mid-fade and nearly dropped a big guy. I spent $300 out of pocket that week on a real replacement. Now I add a $5 'shop upkeep' line to every ticket, no questions asked, and it's saved my gear and my back. How do you all handle those hidden costs that clients never see?

That "hidden costs" thing is everywhere. People get mad about a bag fee at the airport but don't see the fuel and maintenance. My apartment complex added a $10 "common area" fee, and yeah, it stung, but then they actually fixed the busted gym equipment and pool furniture. We're all paying for upkeep one way or another, it's just usually buried in the price.

That's wild a chair broke during a fade! Five bucks is nothing compared to a lawsuit or a hurt client. Smart move making it a standard fee.

Yeah, that five bucks is basically insurance, I mean it's a no brainer.
