Heard a master barber say 'fading is dead' at a convention in Chicago last spring - is that actually true or just gatekeeping?

Wait, a convention? Like a whole event dedicated to barbering and he said that on stage? That's wild. I've been fading for like seven years now and I see people do it every single day on Instagram, it's still the most requested thing in my chair. Feels like he's just trying to be the guy who says the hot take so people remember him, not like he's actually predicting the future. Are barbers really dropping the fade where you're at?

The fade has been everywhere for like a decade now, it's natural for people to start wanting something different after that long. A lot of younger barbers I follow are already pushing classic scissor cuts and textured crops as the fresh alternative, especially in bigger cities. If the trendsetters start posting the "fade is dead" content hard enough, regular clients will start asking for it within a year.
