Back in '08 I thought a straight razor shave was just a quick add-on, but a client's reaction in Omaha taught me otherwise.

I offered a complimentary hot towel and straight razor neck shave to a regular, expecting a simple thanks, but he got quiet and later emailed to say it was the first time he'd felt truly cared for since his wife passed, which showed me the service is about connection, not speed, so what's one small thing you do that clients remember?

What's a small touch that costs you nothing but means everything? I always take a second to ask about a client's day and really listen to the answer.

Ever notice how some cashiers will actually look up from the screen and make eye contact when they say "have a good one"? That tiny bit of real human contact in a routine transaction can flip your whole mood. It feels like they see you as a person, not just the next thing in line. I try to do that now when I'm checking out anywhere, just a quick genuine look instead of muttering at the floor. Makes a bigger difference than you'd think.

When I'm bagging groceries I'll put the bread and eggs on top every single time. Saw a mom with two little kids trying to dig through her bags to find the bread last week, so I just made sure it was right there for her. She looked so relieved. It takes two seconds to think about how someone will unpack their stuff. What little things do you notice people doing that help?
