A kid in my chair yesterday asked for the exact same cut as his dad

I was working on a regular, Mike, who comes in every three weeks for a tight fade. His son, maybe 8 years old, was watching the whole time and when it was his turn, he pointed at his dad and said, 'I want that.' It happened at my shop in the Westgate Plaza. It was a simple moment, but it really hit me how much of this job is about family and passing things down. Do you get a lot of kids who just want to look like their parents?

Ever wonder if the kid just wants the cut, or if he's asking to be treated like a grown-up for twenty minutes?

My son loved it when I let him pick his own style from a book. He sat up straight and took it seriously.

That's really great to hear. I think a lot of folks don't realize how much kids just want to be listened to, especially about something that's happening to their own body. Giving him that choice probably made him feel like he had some control over the situation, and that can make a huge difference in how they act. I've seen it with my own nephews, once they feel like their opinion matters they'll sit still and pay attention. It's not just about the haircut, it's about respecting them as a person. Good on you for doing that.
