A client's kid said my shop smelled like a 'grandpa museum'

He was maybe ten years old, and he said it while his dad was in the chair last week. It made me realize all the talc and bay rum in the air might not be hitting right for younger guys. Are you all seeing a shift in what scents people want in the shop now?

Grandpa museum" is a pretty good line, honestly. But that classic smell is the whole point for a lot of us, it's the vibe. I haven't really seen people asking for different scents.

Walk into any used bookstore in Portland and you'll find at least three people my age looking for something that smells like sandalwood or old leather, not just paper mold. The classic scent is fine, but it gets old when it's the only option. I've seen threads on forums for years where collectors beg for sprays that mimic specific library smells or even different types of old paper. The demand is there, it's just not the loudest voice in the room.
