The sourdough starter that listened to death metal
Last month my neighbor asked me to babysit her sourdough starter while she went to see a band in Nashville. I fed it on my usual schedule but had my playlist on shuffle, and that thing tripled in size overnight. She got back and said it never bubbled like that for her, so now she keeps a speaker by her counter. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen their dough react to music or if I just got lucky with a weird batch.
Something similar happened with my rye starter last winter. My kid left her bluetooth speaker next to the jar for a week straight, mostly rap and some electronic stuff, and that thing went nuts. Bubbles like I never saw before, rose up past the tape line every single day. When she moved the speaker to her room, it went right back to normal within two days. I started putting my phone by the jar during feeds after that and got good rises almost every time. Not sure if it's the sound waves or just the vibration shaking things up, but it seems to do something. Could also be a total fluke and we both just got lucky batches.
