Oven thermometer nearly ruined my wedding cake order
I had a big cake order last Saturday and used my go-to oven thermometer that's been hanging in there for about 4 years. The temp was reading 350 but my cake came out burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. Has anyone else had an oven thermometer go bad on them after a few years without warning?

Four years is a long time for a cheap oven thermometer, but are we really blaming the tool for a bad bake? You said it yourself it was "go-to" and hanging in there, which sounds like it could have been off for a while and you just didn't notice. Maybe your oven's actual temp has been drifting for months and this is the first time it bit you. Seems like a stretch to say it "nearly ruined" your order when you could have checked the temp with a separate thermometer or just watched the cake while it was in there. Is a single burnt cake really that big of a crisis?
