Why does nobody talk about the parts washer trick a guy at the Flint swap meet showed me
I was digging through a $5 bin at a swap meet in Flint, Michigan when a guy running the next table saw me scrubbing a greasy intake with a wire brush. He grabbed my part, dropped it in his parts washer, and told me to swap the solvent for straight diesel and let it sit for 20 minutes. That one change cut my cleaning time on a filthy transmission case from about 2 hours down to 40 minutes, and I want to know what mix everyone else runs in theirs.

Wait, diesel really works better than the regular solvent? I always figured the stuff they sell as parts washer fluid was made for this and anything else was just guys being cheap. But I tried it last month on a grimy 350 block and it honestly pulled the crud off way faster than the purple stuff I'd been buying for years. Letting it sit is the key part I always skipped, I used to just spray and scrub right away. Now I'm wondering if the diesel just breaks down the oil better or if its the soak time doing the work. Either way I'm not going back to the pricey solvent.
