Vent: Using youtube videos for major repairs is a disaster waiting to happen

I cannot believe how many people think a ten minute video makes them a mechanic. Just had a vehicle towed in after the owner tried to replace the transmission based on online tips. They mixed up the fluid types and now the whole system is shot. This is not a simple oil change we are talking about. The repair bill is huge and could have been avoided. I get wanting to save money, but some jobs need real training and tools. Your car is complex and guessing can leave you stranded. Please, for your own safety, know your limits and call a pro for big jobs.

Honestly get your point about safety with big jobs like transmissions, that stuff is scary. But tbh banning all YouTube help seems extreme when some basic repairs are totally learnable online if you pick the right videos. The trick is knowing what's actually a basic job and checking more than one source. Still totally agree that guessing on huge repairs can wreck your car and your wallet.

Changed my own brake pads last month using a few different videos, saved a ton of cash.

Kinda like @karen165 said, my friend's DIY transmission led to a big bill.
