Had to pick between a reman alternator and a junkyard unit last Tuesday
My 2010 F-150's alternator gave out on the way home from a job in Akron. Snow was coming the next morning, so I needed a fix fast. The reman unit at the parts store was $210, but the junkyard one was $45 with a 30-day guarantee. I went with the cheap one because money's tight, and it's been sitting at 14.2 volts for 5 days now. Has anyone else rolled the dice on a used alternator and gotten lucky, or did I just dodge a bullet?
I’m right there with you on the "money's tight" thing, man. That’s a hard call to make when snow's coming and you just need it to work. Honestly, 5 days and holding steady at 14.2 volts sounds pretty solid so far, so let's hope it keeps treating you right.
