Had a customer's brake caliper bolt snap off inside the knuckle on a 2018 Silverado last Thursday, and my apprentice wanted to just drill it out.

Ah, the apprentice's "drill it out" plan. Classic shortcut to a bigger problem.

My buddy tried that on a stripped bolt last month. Grabbed the drill before even trying a proper extractor. Ended up cracking the whole housing. Cost him four times what a simple extractor kit would have been, plus a whole weekend of swearing at his project car.

Actually, extractors come before drilling.
