My cat suddenly started bringing me socks at 3am - thought she was broken, turns out it's a hunting instinct thing

I compared her sock stash to a cat behavior blog and realized she thinks I'm a terrible hunter. She brought me 17 socks last week alone. Has anyone else's cat tried to "feed" them random objects?

Wait, did you say 17 socks in a week? That's a LOT even for a cat who thinks you're a bad hunter. I gotta gently push back on the "hunting instinct" thing though - it's actually more of a "favorite toy" thing mixed with wanting your attention. Cats bring us things they find comforting or interesting, and socks smell like us so they're basically a safe object. They might also be trying to teach you how to "hunt" socks by dropping them at your feet, which is hilarious but also kinda sweet when you think about it. My own cat used to bring me those crinkly water bottle labels, just to be clear.

17 socks means she's probably moving them from a hidden stash.
