Took me 3 tries to realize I was twisting my stitches for 2 years

I was making a scarf for my sister last winter and kept wondering why my ribbing looked all wonky compared to everyone else's photos. Then I watched a slow-motion video from a knitting channel on YouTube and saw that I was wrapping my yarn the wrong way around the needle for purl stitches. I had been doing it backwards since I started and never noticed because my stockinette looked fine. Anyone else have a basic technique they messed up for way too long before someone pointed it out?

Oh man, the purl wrap thing got me too. Had a whole sweater that was slightly twisted and I just thought it was my tension being weird for months. What really got me though was learning that I'd been holding my working yarn wrong for intarsia. Took a class at my local yarn shop and the instructor was like "why are you wrapping it twice?" and I had no idea what she meant. Love how knitting just lets you do things wrong for years and still produces something wearable most of the time.
